EMI research
The European Metropolitan network Institute (EMI) puts emphasis on the practical use of academic research. It aims at developing and implementing strategic European research agendas on urban issues. Urban researchers know a lot about the processes that shape European societies, but in many cases the focus on urban issues and policy options should be strengthened. By creating connections between urban knowledge and urban policies in Europe, EMI contributes to the innovation of urban practices. Urban practitioners and policy makers appreciate “best practices” and benchmarking between cities. When dealing with urban challenges there is a gap between academic research on urban issues and day-to-day practice. EMI intents to create a deeper understanding of the problems and structural mechanisms involved.
The European Metropolitan network Institute (EMI) develops urban research programmes in partnership with stakeholders from universities, cities and metropolitan areas, and in cooperation with member states and European institutions. Selected themes will be addressed through thematic networks of interested EMI-partners.
