Green Week Conference 2013: cleaner air for all - submit your local event

The 2013 edition of Green Week, the biggest annual conference on European environment policy, will take place from 4 to 7 June at a new venue, The Egg Conference Centre in Brussels. This year's theme is Air quality. Despite progress in recent years, several air quality standards are still widely exceeded in the EU's most densely populated areas, especially from pollutants such as particulate matter, ground-level ozone, and nitrogen dioxide. 2013 will be a year in which the Commission's current air policy is reviewed, with a focus on finding ways to improve the quality of the air we breathe.

Green Week is looking for events taking place in towns and cities around Europe to link in with the theme air quality. Please submit a description of your event addressing the theme of ‘AIR QUALITY’, by filling out the online application form. Eligible events taking place at local or regional level might include car-free days, conferences, youth workshops, art exhibitions or guided tours, to name a few. Linking your event to Green Week means being part of a Europe-wide campaign and bringing better visibility to your event which, if selected, will be published on the Green Week website.

Despite progress over recent years, levels of harmful pollutants in densely populated areas of Europe still widely exceed a number of air quality standards. As the European Commission prepares to review its current air quality policy, cities are best-placed to help raise awareness and promote behavioural change among citizens and ultimately improve the air we breathe.
